Favortie Springtime Setup

Postby Scipio24 » Mar Mon 18, 2019 9:48 am

With spring (hopefully) around the corner, I am planning to start heading out to wet a line. This got me thinking to so of the tackle setups I wanted to use and made me curious to what others use during this time of year. I've typically gone jerkbait and/or weighted football jig with a craw colored plastic. This is bass as main target fish. What are some other successful/favorite combos do you use? Lake? River?

2 " rattling suspending husky jerks, especially where water flows in to a pond, lake, etc.
Chartreuse mini mites dragged along, or replace the plastic with a 1" gulp minnow. Fish
hit it 90% of the time when it stops and jumps a little when it stops under a float. If you're
over the fish, no float, just drop and drag.

My early spring setups for LM bass are always either a suspending jerkbait, or a black and blue football jig/trailer. For panfish it changes based on what the fish want. Sometimes it's a jig and tail, sometimes it's a spoon, sometimes it's a tiny little crank or spinner. For rivers/smallmouth, suspending jerkbaits, or a jig/twister tail grub.

First year I’ve ever set-up a small amount of tackle to travel with me daily. Spent the last 2 months thinking about the essentials so I wouldn’t be hauling 100lbs of tackle with me. This will cover me from now, 35 degree water to 60ish and from 1’ to 12’. Box 1 for clear(er) water, with and without depth. Box 2 for shallow dirty water (lots of cross over baits in box 2) Box 3 neds, finesse jigs and trailers. Box 4 soft Jerks and I have an empty 3700 box that I can toss crossover baits into from any of the 4 main boxes. Also a Spinnerbait wallet and small box of Dark Sleepers.

I’ll travel with 5 rods but only carry 3 at a time.

6-6 Medium spinner
7-3 Med/Light spinner
6-5 Med/light jerk, square bill, 1-minus rod
6-6 Med/Hvy
7-0 Med/Hvy

Suspending jerkbait

Chatter Bait ( Keitech trailer)

Strike King Red Eye Shad
I spent half my money on fishing, gambling, alcohol, women and billiards. The other half I wasted.
