I want to start thinking about our 3rd annual WCF Classic on Ice. The past two years have been a ton of fun with great food and awesome people.

As usual, there will be a nominal fee involved for the food, which I will have PayPal set up to receive.

It's not a competition/tournament, and I really want to keep it that way. Rather it is a chance for us all to get out and enjoy all the beauty of Deep Lake on the hard water.

I'm thinking of January 22nd. The following weekend is the Rosemont show so i'd want to avoid that. The following weekend, Feb 5th, could be good too. Would give us a chance to purchase some stuff at the show.

I welcome your thoughts...

I like the 22nd of January, simply because the fishing there has been brutal in February the past 2 years... We need to raise some flags this year on them tip-ups!

I don't work weekends and have chosen to dedicate my life to fishing for a while to keep myself out of trouble!

So count me in either weekend!

I'm kinda leaning towards Feb 5th because i'm sure to pick up some gear at the show.

Let's get some more input and then i'll run a poll.

It would be fun to at least come out and see the crew fishing Deep Lake, but by February 5th I will have a newborn in the house so I won't be able to make it out there. Maybe next year. :(

Ok... Outvoted... LOL 5th is cool... The conversations and the fun times on the ice talking and joking around take precedent anyway... If we get a flag to go off then that's a bonus... Maybe this year the sun will come out and there won't be a foot of snow on the ice either!

How do you feel about having a rookie join your outing? Spent the last 20 years in California and never met anyone there that fishes through the ice. So, I have no gear, but I learn pretty quick and would enjoy observing and volunteering to help in anyway with pictures, food, clean-up, whatever.

rooger, that's exactly what WCF is all about. It's never been a "big fish" or "fancy equipment" club (though some do catch lots of BIG fish and have LOTS of fancy equipment.

For just about every gathering we've had over the years there are always several new people joining in.

I'll have the sign up info posted in the next few days.

Thanks, Jason. I've got plenty of "fancy equipment" - I just have the kind you keep in a boat or in your hand on-shore. I've always wanted to give ice fishing a try but didn't have the "mentor" to get me into it! I'll look forward to your update on the outing and hope my schedule works on the date you choose. (If not, I guess I'll just have to beg someone on here to let me tag along sometime when they hit the ice;-)

Feel free to tag along with me anytime I'm going out. Theres a good chance I'm going to Busse Sunday morning for a few hours if anyone else wants to come out your Welcome too.

I actually just began ice fishing this season as well, Rooger. Without the help and advice I got from some of the guys here in the WCF community I probably wouldn't have bothered but there are a lot of helpful and friendly guys around. I have learned a lot from Basspromatuk and Boogaloo after just two outings and although I am still a noob at it you'd be welcome to join me out on the ice sometime if you like. I should be out a lot in January/February.

I definately hope to be out there for my first WCF ice outing!
