Well I caught my first largemouth today. I have caught a lot of fish in my days spent on the water, but never a largemouth. I just recently started fishing for Bass and it has been a learning experience.

This morning I sent my lady on her way to Ohio to visit her parents so I headed out to the lagoons. I grabbed my camera to document any fish I might catch (and make the post more interesting). My plan was to try out a couple new spots and some new soft baits. I didnt make it to the goons until 1230PM but I got on the water quickly. I hiked around and made it to the new spots but the wind was blowing so hard that it made it difficult to cast. I gave up on my new spots and went back to some more sheltered spots I knew.

I started throwing a senko watermelon with red and green flake. Three casts in I felt a nibble, a bite and then a run. I set the hook and what a fight this guy had in him. In took less than a minute to land this guy but it was a fun minute. I have caught my fair share of trout, but Bass give up a good fight. It was a blast.

I was so excited about catching my first largemouth that I forgot to get the camera ready. So instead of keeping the fish out of the water longer than necessary, I scrapped the photo idea and got him back in the water. (didnt want to kill my first largemouth)

After that I fished another 1.5 hours with no luck. But the one guy made it worth while.

Nice Job!! I would suggest fishing a FROG there as well, a SPRO Bronzeye would be a GREAT starter / all the time frog, green/yellow belly leopard color should do you just fine. use braided line , double the knot as braid likes to "slip", use the stiffest rod you have and get busy!! Not always, but often, especially now with the vegetation thick, they will be in VERY shallow water, as close as 6 inches deep and within as close as a foot of the bank. Also, be SURE to have a "follow up bait" - a worm/senko / jig and pig CLOSE by. If a fish blows up on your frog but misses it/you don't hook up , then IMMEDIATELY (I mean 10 seconds!) cast aformentioned "follow up bait" in the exact spot they blew up. They will crush it most of they time. Ditto with topwater poppers/spook type baits. WELCOME to our bass "nightmare" :moresarcasm:
