So I took my father in law fishing twice this week. Both times as Montrose, both times targeting perch.
Monday: Got minnows from Fishtech on Saturday and used rain water from the building spout and small air pump to keep them alive in my trunk until Monday. Since I was going to use 2 small powerlines (12 hooks each) I knew I needed a lot so I bought 5 dozens (total headcount was 72 minnows). Arrived at Montrose at 9:15 AM, got the lines in the water and got first perch 30 minutes later. In the 3 1/2 hours we stayed there we pulled out 53 perch (2 powerlines with 12 hooks each and 3 rods with eggsinker and 1 minnow each). We used all the minnows, we had a lot of bites, we also lost about 10 fish. We kept 22 fish, whatever was over 8".
Wednesday: I took off from work and hoped for another great day at the harbor. I bought 7 dozens of large fathead minnows from Fishtech on Tuesday and asked them to put a little more water in my bucket. My father in law wanted to use a powerline also, after he saw me pulling 5 perch at the same time on Monday. So I made him a line with 12 hooks and he tried to take care of that; I said tried because the first 5 fish he lost, he was either pulling the line the moment he got a bite or he was pulling the line too slow. Arrived at the harbor at 9:35, got all three lines in the water by 10:15. I managed to pull out 13 perch (kept 6 of them) and my father in law got 5 and kept all ( only 1 was a keeper in my opinion but I could not convince him to release the dinks). He also got a baby trout, I'd say it was around 10" and I told him he cannot keep it because he only had a 24 hours lincence with no trout stamp so he released it. This time we used about half of the minnows only, I gave the rest of them to my frien Lou (he arrived late, around 12:30 or so). We pulled the lines out a 1PM, I had a training seminar at 2PM that was mandatory so we left.
And since sometimes history repeats itself, after taking off from work last week on wednesday and catching a rainbow trout, today I also caught another rainbow trout, this time a little bigger (21", 4 lb 1.7 oz). Last week I caught it on the fishing rod, the one from today preferred my powerline.
