I have always wanted to travel to Alaska in search of steel in Yakutuk or on the Situk River. Have any one you gone to any of these places in search of Chrome? If so. I would love to see some pictures. It is one of my dreams to fish Alaska.

This Video makes me want to go more and more every time I watch it.

This guy is living the dream! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4zj8bAa ... er&list=UL

Navy, That is some great reading!!! :D

The hook through the Nail part gave me the shivers. LOL

The Muskrat coming up through his ice hole back in a November read was pretty cool too! The Videos are awesome as well. I just favorited his Blog and will be sending Rudy an email on a few questions about the Situk River. Thanks for the help.

Hoffman. LOL Yea that would be great too!

About a year and half ago, I backpacked from Anchorage to Seward. This last trip was the 2nd time I've been able to do this. (Actually this last time I cheated, and the thumb up signal was able to pick up three appreciated shortcuts along the way. :D )

Alaska can only be described in one word, and that word is "Awesome", for those who haven't made it out there yet. Please make a point to take at least one trip in your lifetime. You will never be able to forget it. I know one thing............ I'm defiantly going to be back before my time is up, I'm already looking forward towards another crazy adventure.

The oldest guy in my first trip was a friend of my father, at the time he was 67. So unless your older than that, it's not to late. My dads friend Bob, took his last big fishing trip with the same group at the age of 69, and that was a two week canoeing adventure throughout Quetico. He actually wanted to travel with our group on this last Alaskan trip, but his wife called us in the initial stages of planning, and said enough is enough. She finally put the foot down, and Bobs outdoor adventures came to a close.

I've been traveling outdoors / fishing with my Dad, his friend Bob, and also Bobs sons for as long long as I can remember. These trips go back about 25-30 years, and the memories acquired from these trips will live as long as I do.

Charged! That is awesome to hear! I have been on a canoe trip from ely to quetico, and it was Intense for the 7 day trip of portaging our gear and garbage. You brought back some great memories. :D

You make me have a lot of hope being a young guy in search of my dream of fishing early spring steelhead up on the Situk River. It will be intense and non stop fishing when I make my journey one day ;)

Thanks so much to everyone with the great responses! Every little tip and detail means a lottttt to me.

Thanks everyone and have a Great Christmas!!!

I might head up to Alaska for the first time this coming summer. I have Family in Ketchikan I can stay with and have been invited the last couple years and have not been able to make it. I actually know almost nothing about the fishing up there, except that it's supposed to be outstanding. They do alot of ocean fishing, but i'd like to do some stream salmon or steelhead fishing.

Good luck with your quest, Wrenchingnfishing.

Waterguy, I look forward to pics when you come back if you make the trip in the summer. I hope you enjoy it. :D

Also Thanks, I believe one day I will make the journey.

WrenchingnFishing. Here are some photos from the first trip I just snapped out of a photo album, I have some really nice digital photos of the 2nd trip burnt away on cd somewhere, but I'm not sure where they are right now.

I apologize for the poor quality, the pictures were taken with a disposable camera. Whats neat about alaska, is how much the terrain changes each day depending on your elevation.

Charged, That is way too cool! That scenery on the elevation must of been amazing in person. That Black bear looks a little bigger than a Cub in the photo. Was the bear a full adult or a little bigger than a Cub? I would have crapped myself if I ran into a bear  That is just too cool!!! Alaska sure is something else!

I was looking on Google for some resorts to stay at on the Situk River and was amazed. Beautiful log cabins. Pricey but well worth it. :D

That bear was about medium adolescent sized 200#'s or so at most, the picture turned out bad because it was raining. Most of the time they ignore you (some don't even acknowledge your existence). This one was trying to get at our packs, so we had scare it away. It was getting latter in the day, and we were going to setup camp here, but was scared its mom might be around. We then picked up and packed a few more miles.

I had another much larger one walk about 30 feet in front of me. I just sat down, and watched it walk past. It never even looked at me and just continued along its way.

The sheep picture was pretty cool too, I remember walking up to it looking through the view finder on the camera, snapped a few pics, then when I put the camera down, it was much closer than it appeared though the lens, and remember backing off when I saw how big its horns were.

WrenchingnFishing, Once you get yourself up there, one thing that might surprise you, is that everything costs more up there than you would think it would, The people you meet, there great.
