I'm a little bored so I figured I'd write this as I'm sure a few of you are interested. I fished in the Sectional today at Busse from 8-3, 20 boats participating in a brutal day of fishing juxtaposed to the beautiful weather. Water started at 47-50 at 8, and was 55-57 by 3:00 depending on location. Flipped a jig all day with only a 1.2 pound fish to show for it, which is unfortunately much better than most boats did. Only three boats brought in fish with the total being four. Elk Grove placed first with two fish weighing in at 3.12, Naperville North placed second with a 2.8 fish, and my boat (Wheaton Warrenville South) squeaked by with the 13 inch dink at third. Any opinions on the tournament or what the boats could have done to catch more? I was a tad disappointed with not only my performance but also how many fish Busse produced. I would have imagined they'd warm up and get more active since the water warmed up so much, but I guess they were still thrown off from the cold and flooding. Wish I could have fished the north pool haha.

Wow that's crazy, I would think the fishing wouldve been a little better than that! Sounds like what I'd have done, I probably would've thrown a moving bait like a spinnerbait/chatterbait also, especially if a lot of other boats were flipping/pitching the shoreline. Strange with that nice warm up they weren't biting better but nice job on 3rd regardless!

At this time of year with the spring were having Busse can really be hit and miss and the main has always seemed to turn on a little later then the others, so dont beat yourself up. You nailed 25% of the bass caught and advance :) Do you guys get to use gas motors on those bass boats? Busse fish aren't used to that. At this time you really have to keep moving to locate the active bass, and i like to throw search baits like rattle traps, spinnerbaits and shallow runners. the spinnerbait worked better for us today. Good luck in the next one!

Thanks for the post BB. Was very curious how that tournament would turn out, especially after being cancelled by the rain last week. I was out on the main pool in my kayak all afternoon yesterday and no strikes at all for me.

I think the fact that Busse is a flood control reservoir and all the rain probably is what hurt things for fishing. The water really is very muddy still and all the fish are just not active. The north pool is almost a completely different ecosystem and not as susceptible to the finickiness of the main lake and south pool.

Thanks again for the update on how things went.

Cool man, glad you advanced. It does not sound like there is much you could of done different. With that many boats, it is fair to say that there were probably boats chucking chatterbaits and spinnerbaits that zeroed. My only constant with boat fishing Busse is to get fairly tight to the shore and work back across all the timber. I seem to get more hits and fish willing to chase by fishing parralel to the cover. Good luck and keep us updated on the next tourny.

It would seem that trying something with alot of vibration in stained water would be worth giving a shot. Like others have said with the whole system messed up from the flood, sometimes it is just a tough bite.
