Been a while since I posted so I decided share some of my good fortune this Summer. Have had many jigs in my tackle since I started fishing a few years ago, but never caught anything with them until this Summer. I've been having great success with a flippin jig/trailer and swimming it. Today didn't seem very ideal for fishing, but decided to stop by my usual shoreline I go to. Have caught a few bass with jig/trailer at the lagoons back when the water level was high about a month back. Went around 7pm and it was hot, sunny and humid with pretty low water level on the shoreline plus it was weedy as heck. I usually just flip and pitch around the trees but way too weedy for that.
Cast out across to the other side of the shoreline in front of a downed tree and picked my biggest bass at the lagoons. Didn't let it sink, just slow retrieved it back, been working well for this summer. Bass picked it up in the middle of the retrieve, 3.0 on the dot =)
I've been at the Lagoons for many hours at a time with many skunks and the occasional bass, decided that it can't get any better then that and the heat/mosquitoes were too much so I left.
I find the lagoons to be fishing somewhat difficult at times. Hard to cast around with all the trees and sunken logs to snag my lures. Lost many of lures/hooks there but it nice and peaceful there. Little under ½ ounce flippin jig with matching color baby bass yamamoto 5" pro trailer has been my go to at Lagoons, Deep Lake and ponds. Most fish I catch on that combo is from slow retrieving the bottom bouncing off rocks at ponds, pitch/flipping under trees and a slow retrieve swim right when it hits the water. Stroking, twitching, stop and go haven't gotten me any bites so far with that combo.
Hope that helps some fellow fisherman.
