Was able to get out on the yak for a bit the other day and had a very productive day fishing between dam one and the allison woods. From 2 to close I managed 7 pike anywhere from mid teens to upper 20's. Also landed 5 largemouth as well. The one fish that caught my attention was a baby musky (at least I think). Thought I'd post a pic here and see what you all think.

The vertical lines do have a musky look but it appears to be fully scaled down to cheek which would say pike. Hybrid? I would bet on pike though just with the sheer numbers up here. Either way theyre all great catches. If it happens again try to get a pic of the underside of the lower jaw. 6 or more pores = musky....5 or less pores = pike.

awesome catch again though

Good fishun!

Not a musky or a hybrid, just an immature Pike. Baby pike all have stripes that break off into spots as they mature. Colors, although not the most precise indicator, are an immediate give away on this one. Dpr hybrids are a silvery green color, with black or dark stripes. 8)

A baby Pike.....

I agree with the pores but since we really cant see i'll go with the other indications it's a pike. The tail is rounded and not pointed. The entire cheek is scaled and not just the upper half. Either way that's a great catch! I love the marking patterns. Looks like a great fishing day!

Aux has it. The juvenile pike have vertical bars. An easy way to tell is the difference in juvenile pike/muskie is that pike have light bars on a dark background, muskie have dark bars on a light background. Nice fishing!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I should have looked closer. only thing I really paid attention to was the striping. It was still a cool fish and catch though. I can't believe this little guy went for my number 4 meppes!
