Great Video Ron.

3:18 Crappie was Beast! 8)

Just like old times... And its been years. Multiple guys contributing at the same time which is why I look forward to this spring and throughout. As we Learn and even re learn all over again. Oldies and newbies mixin it up. :D

I've always, as your already aware taken a special interest in your successful unique reportings. And glad you've chosen to start consistently sharing them here.

Great stuff. Cant wait for more

I'm loving it and so very excited for this year.

Nice video Ron. Thanks for showing some of the plastics you use and one's you've improvised from traditional plastics. I'm still a newb to ice fishing and don't really use artificals much but I'll have to give them a try.

GREAT SOUNDTRACK!!!
It's Kerry Livgren. You probably know a few of the songs he wrote when in Kansas like Carry On Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind. Great and versatile composer!

Excellent, I especially like the improvised plastics made from open water baits, very informative.
Who doesn't have a million of them laying around? I know you have at least 3 million in that tackle store you have built into your home.

Each one you carve out is unique like a snowflake. It hurts when you finally lose one that has been really pounding the fish. It's gone forever...

Nice video for sure. It is cool how you are making your carving your own plastics. Great idea!

Now go find me them perch

Nice video and great job at editing it, put together quite well. Lovin' the fl8 that's the one I have. Do you see a difference in the number of responses gills vs crappie with the plastics? If I start using improvised plastics from my collection at home I've got a life time supply. Nice suggestion and great real time insight to make us go hmmmmm...

Both species love them as well as the bass, cat and roach I caught in recent days.

Nothing is absolute except I've absolutely been having a lot of fun. Slow days, ironically in my opinion, I've usually seen the fish hit plastics when they wont touch live bait. Today threw me a curve ball. Yesterday was a 60+ crappie day plus lots of gills. Today only 3 crappies. I don't believe they weren't biting, but more that they moved to another area. Today's gills barely wanted plastics, but the bigger ones came on plastics.

Usually the gills prefer something small and black. Yesterday it was white. Normally, I'm getting both species on whatever I'm jigging. Be prepared to rotate colors to find what they want. Today I used spikes more than I have in awhile. The bluegills would hit spikes on a red moon jig with gold glitter but wouldn't touch spikes on an unpainted jig. Goofy things leave me scratching my head. I guess if everyday was the same, I'd get bored.

I think I posted this before, but what works the best for me with plastics (most days) is to gently jig above the mob of fish and get some to rise. Just before they get to my jig, I slowly raise it further causing them to continue to chase it, then strike. Carrot on a stick tactic.

BUMP (I thought this might be useful for some of the newer members that weren't here 3 years ago)

I went searching for it to remind myself to get the plastics out more often than I have been.
