Took the boat out on the DPR this afternoon, 70, mostly sunny, flow 228 cfs 2-1/2' vis. Launched at 3:15, with a few goals in mind. Catch some pike, hopefully a 30", see if the trees were starting to change, and dig out what I thought was a mailbox I spotted from the top of the bridge back on Aug 16th while checking out the new low river levels down 2-3/4 feet on the gage.
I quickly picked up 3 pike in the first hour. A 23" 2.2lber, a 24-1/2" 2.4 lber and a 18 -1/2" 1.2lber, all on the chatterbait.

Then stopped to get the mailbox and see if any mail was in it , but it wasn't a mailbox, it was a 7"x7"x 5" SAFE. It was about six inches under the water, couldn't get a grip on it in the current so just rolled it into the net and lifted into the boat. Whats in it? Gold, Silver, Jewelry or more mud, I'll find that out when I figure out how to crack it open!

With my possible treasure securely in the boat I headed north for more pike but found nothing for almost 2 hours except countless chatter snags on wood I had to boat into the mess to retrieve, ruining each spot. I don't know what was going on , must have happened a dozen times. Then a little luck when I picked up another bad assed 10" .7lb Rocky with a chatter stash. Then ending the night with another 23" 2.2lb pike, the best fight of the day, as it had 3' of water to dive down into, That one managed to slice up my finger as you can see from the blood.
Not a bad day out, 3-1/2 hours , 4 pike ,no misses, a rocky and a mystery safe. And the fall colors are j u s t beginning
