Got out for an hour tonight. 5:45-6:45. Temp had dropped a little from what was otherwise a really nice afternoon. Water still a tad higher than normal but it looked pretty good actually. I began by throwing spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and a rattle trap. My search baits failed me though so I decided to go smaller to try and land a little something.

Guys nearby were getting some small bass and crappie on live minnows so I decided to throw some of my small Lunker City shad and see if I could convince anybody.
First or second cast I get a nice little bite. I'm thinking its a crappie but then it starts fighting a little too hard. Thought maybe a small bass but to my surprise it ended up being the elusive Lake O perch. Had a nice little gut and would have been a "keeper" in other circumstances.

Saw another Perch caught yesterday and got this little dink as well. It's a perch resurgence!!

Time to break out my perch colored crankbaits.

My son and I were pulling quite a few out last year. Right behind that stage is where we found them most. You can see we were using minnows to make it easier for him (*me) to score some hits. I want to see a toothy critter pulled out of Lake O, and maybe with a kayak purchase I can be the lucky one to pull one out.

Last year I caught a nice perch while bassing.
Hopefully catch and release only will bring back the fishery.
Back only a handful of years ago the size of fish were amazing.
