Been going through my rods and reels, seeing if I can scavenge a better set up from all these odds and ends, and I came across a rod I remember using as a kid.

Its a 6 foot long gold spinning rod, Reel holder tightens from the rear. the specifics have worn out but I can still see the company

Master fishing and tackle corporation. Made in Japan.

Anyone have any experience with this company?

The action seems to be pretty light.

I also found a blank red spinning surf rod.

It's about 7 feet long, with a really long wood handle on the back. Cork handle in front of the reel. Action seems really heavy. HUGE eyelets.

I know the pictures are bad but any idea what kinda rod this is? I put the Daiwa spinning reel on it btw so they are unrelated.

I'm a big fan of old gear. Lord knows I hang on to stuff that I'll never use way longer than good sense would dictate. And sometimes I crack it out & use it just for shits & giggles.

But I have to say that the new stuff beats the old all to hell. I have a 7' Daiwa Samurai that I swore by for years. Then I realized just exactly how old it is. I remember catching a smallie on the Flambeau with it the morning of my 50th birthday. It was several years old then and that was 18 years ago. So last year for my B day I treated myself to a Fenwick Elite Tech. More recently I got a bug up my butt & bought a Fenwick Silverhawk II at Cabelas. I have an old (like 6 years) Pflueger President XT on the Elite and a new XT on the Silverhawk. Either one kills my old Daiwa (pains me to say it).

So while I admire your efforts to use old gear my advice is to treat yourself to new stuff. The difference is remarkable.

Don't know about those rods but, Here's some "vintage" for you. :) a steel rod

Best as i can figure, a "Union Hardware", tubular steel, bronze finish 4 piece bait casting rod with a silk burgandy storage bag circa 1930's +/- 10 years made with Triumph steel.
my Grandfathers. Jeez i'm old  also have a square steel 1-piece bait caster rod.
Rods have come a long way!

Love the old fishing gear too!
