Stepped outside to a balmy 27 degrees this morning. Perfect trout weather. About a half an hour into my morning, I hooked what I thought was my personal best creek chub, AKA Dupage River trout, until it went airborne. Alas, I had myself my first honest-to-goodness Dupage River rainbow trout.
It was at this point that I decided to put down the bass gear for good and become a trout guy. I found near immediate success with not one, but two more beautiful rainbow trout.
No doubt stockers that got washed in from somewhere during the October flooding. I doubt I got the only three in the river so there's probably more swimming around. I also got into quite a largemouth bite between 9 and 10 a.m. of better-than-average sized bass for that river. Had a few shake off and all fish landed were between 13" and 15", many of them covered in mud. They're already hunkering down on the bottom of wintering holes but are very willing biters.
All fish caught on light jigs with 3" Gulp minnows. One smallmouth, five largemouth, and three rainbow trout. Yes I said it. I caught more Dupage River rainbow trout than smallmouth bass, cuz that's how I roll.
