There was no bears game, so my dad, little brother and I went to the river. The fishing started out on fire as we landed three in the time slot between 4:30 and 4:50. I caught the first fish before my dad had even put his line in the water. I hooked into another pike and gave my brother a chance to catch his very first pike. He brought it on land and then the pike shook the spinner bait off. I had to wrestle the thing to keep it from getting back to the river. My dad snapped a couple pictures and the pike was released in good health. We then moved down the shoreline and just as i was pulling the spinner bait out of the water, a good sized slammed the lure. I then heard something i love: the drag. the fish was netted, pictured and released. i thought it was going to die after it did not leave my hand in the water, but it swam away in good health. We explored in some new areas and that is were the fish were caught. after the last one was landed, nothing hit. we stopped around 6:10ish and left. The fish were all caught on white spinner baits.

Great job by all of you! I recently went to the DPR last Monday and caught my first pike as well using a buzzbait.

Seems the DPR has a bunch of pike and everyone is catching them with either spinnerbaits or buzzbaits.

I'm sure your brother had a real exciting time catching his first pike! I know I did! :)

Just curious, how far out into the water did you catch your pikes? Mine was maybe only 8 or 10 feet away from the shoreline when he hit. I've heard pike tend to come closer to the shore and would like to confirm that. Did yours hit closer in?

most of the pike hit few feet from shore. every now and then you can get a hit farther out, but those are few and far between.
The larger pike was in the upper twenties in inches.
