So I decided to hang close to home and hit the DPR at the Isle

With the current and water levels I decided to stay on the shore, didnt want to risk anything. But it turns out that it didnt matter. After my 4th cast, Wooohooo, first walleye ever taken. What a rush.

I was so damn excited, that I didnt even measure, but I was quick enough to lay the rod and reel down to give an approximate size to those persons that are interested in determining what they think the size is.

Any guesses on the size?

After the excitement, I decided to go north of the bridge where there is a small little grassy area and no current. First cast, hooked a Northern, pulled him up to where at least 1/3 of his body was sticking out of the water, just enough to get excited. Next thing I know, I let the slack out just so much, fish flipped and broke or cut the line.

The Northern, from the looks of it could have been anywhere from 24 to 30 inches long just based on the diameter of it's head.

Needless to say, I cussed for an hour while still trying to snag him again. And oh, by the way, I am still cussing.

All in all, not to bad for a shitty night of rain, 1 for 2 on Fish that I have never had the opportunity to catch in the past.

MAN I LOVE IT.

Congrats!

As for the pike, I know how you feel. I caught one the other day fishing at the DPR and after bringing him to the shore, he did what your fish did and rolled back into the water to escape. I was equally disappointed, but I kept at it and caught what I think was the same fish again! Same spot, same size... what's the chances? Yours sounds bigger than mine, but after I caught him again, I measured him at only 20 inches and 2 lbs.

Keep at it! The DPR seems to be offering a lot of action lately! Good job! :D
