An absolute genius. My teenage summers wouldn't have been the same without his music.

God only knows where we'll be without him.

His brain died much earlier. I remember Jonathan Brandmeier seeing him walk into a tall chain link fence at a concert and continue walking, even though the fence was not budging.

For quite some time he lived in St. Charles.

Genius, agreed. Surf’s Up is a masterpiece.
More on Surf's Up: I remember reading a review - probably in Rolling Stone - just after it came out. It said how surprising it was that a group that was famous for beach & surfing music had matured to the point where they could bring out such an introspective album.

And I'm not making this up. In the summer of '73 I was driving my trusty, old '65 Plymouth Fury through the Hayden Valley in Yellowstone. Turned on the AM radio & this was on: "I'm a rock in a landslide, rolling over the mountainside. How deep is the valley? How deep is the valley?

Wow...

...even Ron & Nancy Reagan loved the Beach Boys.
Not this Ron, even though I was named after Reagan. 'Just never cared for them. In high school, on my rural school bus, we had an 8-track player and the driver would let us bring our own music. Me and my friends hogged the play time with our hard rock and progressive rock. It was always a dreaded day when Daniel Luedtke walked onto the bus with his Beach Boys 8-track. We couldn't figure out what was wrong with that guy.

Obviously young Daniel had superior taste in music.
