It was a nice day today. It was great to get outside and feel the air, but unfortunately I got skunked from about 3pm-5pm. I tried waxworms, nightcrawlers crappie jigs of different sizes. Not even a bite. Might head out tomorrow also, not sure if I should hit the river again after today's skunk or hit up the big pond for some perch.

I think I need to follow Geo around for a day.

yeah the spillway hasn't been great to me lately. the spot your probably fishing more towards bryn mawr is a good spot for carp. might have to wait awhile to get them to catch on though. did you chum? if i were fishing for carp right now-i'd chum it up a bit.

here's the thing to know -

in the winter (generally speaking), fish do not use a lot of energy. It's cold. They huddle up in calmer areas. The spillway has strong current. The fish aren't really going to stack there right now because of the extra energy they would need to swim in those waters.

I am not suggesting this is a bad spot. In the spring and summer time, you can catch fish all day there. When the water warms up, fish thrive in that oxygenated water.

For now, try slower moving pools. Work around structures where the current eases up on the fish.

If you wanna try for carp, go behind north side prep, just north of the spillway.

Good luck out there

call me an idiot, but i've never fished carp - I've watched George W's video and it was informative, but what do you "chum" with? just put frickin' corn on a hook and catch huge fish? I've been really wasting my time if that's all I needed.

salyers, what were you using when trying to catch them? i'd use corn and if you don't have that just ball up anything sweet. there's some sweet doughy carp baits out there at the shops.
