I always got a kick of those who don't go fishing because of an almanac entry or a wind direction.

Today it was strong, from the north and from the east. The barometer was 30.77...is that good or is that bad? Wisdom would dictate I stay home and watch Brian Williams. :thumbdown: I learned long ago, crappies don't have wind vanes and wouldn't know what to do with one if they did. I froze but the crops were very active.
The first goof took a swipe and a surface roll at my bobber. :shock: I said a little prayer he'd upright himself and see what was trailing the bobber by 4'. He did.
I got a fish on the next 2 consecutive casts, each progressively smaller...
...but still, it was 3 fish in 3 casts.
This place has black crappies, but no white ones. With perseverance you can find the orange crappies.
Perch on artificials. Who would have thunk? I've been preaching about this find for years now. Most choose to argue the logic and continue to plunk down $7 for a half dozen softshell mush balls. :?
I ran out of shad tails and started using a mini-mite that was rigged on my other pole. It was a slow start, but when the crappies figured out they weren't going to be seeing any more shad tails today, they started whacking the mini-mite pretty good.
I had a goal of breaking out of the single digit count of the last two days. I did by catching 23, many 8" to 10s. If you see the guy with the ratty mittens, stop and introduce youself. 8)
Oh, I forgot to check the moon chart. Were the fish supposed to be biting today? :roll:
