Worked what I think they refer to as Lagoon #6 today from 9-10:30AM. Pretty rough fishing this place from the shore. I lost two rattle traps due to some other fisherman's previous snags. I ended up catching one bass but I dunno if it was worth losing the rattle traps over.

PK you should try using a braided line. You would be surprised how many lures you save and how many other lures you pull in.
I've thought about that. But I never actually snap the line because of a snag. I usually end up clipping the line out of fear of taxing the drag on my reel or over bending a rod. Do you just muscle everything through with braid?

Pk,I wrap a towel or hankerchief around the line and give a steady pull. I use 6 lb. test Fireline and I get most of my lures back and usually someone elses or some interesting piece of structure. When I fish at oakton pond I usually come home with more lures than I came with(mostly rattle traps) Do not use your pole or reel to pull with because you surely will break them. Do not use your bare hands to grab the braid with, it will cut you like a knife. Been there, done that.

Nice fish PK

Interesting about the braid, tired of losing so many baits from shore.
Thanks for the info . I have been trying fireline and seems to me
I don't get as many strikes with the braid. Fluorocarbon leader would
that defeat the purpose, or any suggestion. It may be in my head new to braided line and baitcasters.

Using any kind of leader material would defeat the purpose as the knot would break way before the line would. What color Fireline are you using ?
I'm not sure that fireline would cause a fish to not hit a crankbait or spinner bait. Might cause them to shy away from a jig or finese method.

Nice fish PK, with the braid I wouldnt worry about the line shy thing when using spinnerbaits, traps those are reaction baits. I use braid on everything including slip bobbers and yum dingers. The only exception is when I am finesse fishing in ultra clear water. I still dont think that it matters that much, after losing a few fish on Geneva last year with flouro, I grabbed my pole with 10LB PP and still caught fish. Basicially I am not 100% sold on the line shy dealio.

Also when pulling out a snag and conventional methods dont work I will put my hand over the spool and point the pole towards the snag and take a few steps back. Either your line will snap your hooks will straighten out or you will pull out whatever you snagged. That doesnt tax the rod or the drag. I have pulled quite a few large objects out that way even a fire extinguisher with 10lb Power Pro. I used to like fireline but as it got older the braid would start to unwind.

If you are going to use braid, stick with a true braid like Power Pro or Spider Wire. Fireline, although very strong, is not a true braid and is not as good in my opinion.
