Got to opeka at 645 am. Fished until 845am. Fishing was really slow. Couldnt get one hit off of any crank or spinner. So i switched to finesse. Started fishing a senko when i had a hit. Im new to finesse fishing and this was my first one. Unfortantly i didnt set the hook and when the fish got three feet from shore he spit my senko right back at me. The fishing shut down at 8am when it started getting hot. Im new to finesse fishing, and i was wondering how exactly do u fishing senkos, and other finesse baits. do u drag them on the bottom or actually twicth them? Im just confused on how you fish them and when they are effective. :?: Thanks

EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN TECHNIQUE FISHING THE SENKOS HERE. I FOR ONE DONT REALLY TWITCH IT AT ALL. I JUST CAST, REEL IN THE SLACK LINE, LET IT SINK(WATCH THE LINE FOR THE TAP), LIFT MY POLE GENTLY IN A 12 O'CLOCK MOTION. AND REPEAT STEPS ONE AND TWO. I KNOW A FEW PEOPLE ON THIS WEB SITE LIKE WORKING THEM LIKE A JERKBAIT OR SLASHBAIT. JUST KEEP AT IT THOSE SENKOS ARE DEADLY ON THE BASS. ALTHOUGH I CANT REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I TIED ON A SENKO. :idea: LOOKS TO BE ABOUT TIME FOR THAT THIS WEEK :wink:

I let it sink to the bottom and let it sit for a few seconds then twitch it a couple times and let it flutter down to the bottom again.

Like Tony said there are many ways to fish a Senko. Personally I prefer the Yum Dingers, as they are a little more durable than the Senkos. I don't think that there is a wrong way to fish them.

I get a lot of fish deadsticking it for 30 seconds. I think a lot of times the fish will go for it and stop on the fall. Then hit it after it is deadsticked. I have seen this while sightfishing. So, I am not always so quick to reel the bait to a new spot.

You want to make sure you watch your line for a twitch and try not to have to much slack in it. A nice strong hookset is a must if fishing texas rigged. Wacky doesn't require a hard set. But, still a nice hookset with the proper hook will almost always get the fish in the boat.

I was out at Opeka this evening at about the same time you were. I sometimes fish plastics but am by no means an expert. I fished the south end and started with the old "Bill Binkleman" method which is a whole nitecrawler hooked through the nose on a #6 or #8 hook and preferably no weight at all. I caught a small bass on the first cast and that was it. Then went to plastics to spinners to topwater baits to no avail.
I'll just mention that I was using the same nitecrawler method the other day at the OCC and caught 3 small crappie. The strange thing is that the crappies never pulled the crawler at the other end and break it off like a bluegill or perch would. They all were hooked with the crawler totally intact.
