I hit up lake Arlington for the first time since I started going to IG. Earlier I went to LA a few times but only caught a dink with a crankbait on my first visit.EDIT- I started at the SE corner, there is some street parking over there.
I had leftover worms from my visit to the fox river so I but a weight a couple feet up from my circle hook, threw it out, and put it in my rod holder. I was going to tie on a spinner on my other rod and I already had a fish! I caught a 17 inch bass in less than 30 seconds after arriving. Some guy came down off the path and admired it, he said it was probably the biggest fish Ill get out of there all year and I answered back quick with "no way"
I fished the same spot another half hour with nothing. There was a crazy topwater bite going on but I dont think they were bass. I moved and in another spot caught a dink and a 14 inch bass on bottom nightrawlers. The 14 incher did alot of tail dancing and it had a slippery lip I kept trying to lip it. A couple saw me and the lady was surprised I was releasing it. I moved past the pont and there was a bunch of adolescent ducks kept getting in my way. The whole time I never got any bass on my artificials. I also didnt get any gills on my crawlers :) Surprisingly I did catch a gill on a 5 inch senko wacky rigged with a big 4/0 circle hook
Lake Arlington is right next door so I will be back more often now that I know I can get good bass there.

Those ducks along the shoreline at Lake Arlington certainly can be annoying!

A 17" bass is a pretty decent bass just about anywhere around here. And for Lake Arlington it is a "real good" bass.

A lot of the surface commotion you saw were carp, crappie and gills. The carp do their "flops", and the crappie and gills like to "kiss" the surface. When I was there a few nights ago there were a couple of bass crashing the surface - but few and far between. Bass will "crash" the surface with fast violent splashes the leave a nice tight wake.

Keep on keeping on at Lake Arlington. With a little patience and perseverance you can get on some nice bass there.

The disappointing thing is the big bass didnt put up much of a fight. I think my rod is heavier than I need unless Im in heavy cover. I pulled a couple dinks straight out of the water. Its a 6' 8"falcon lowrider MH rated for 10-20lb line.

Yeah, MH is going to be way too heavy duty for you at Lake Arlington, unless you start fishing for carp.

Sometimes I think my 6' M is too much.

Hey Svslider,

Nice job fishing at LA. One the funnest parts of fishing there is the crowds that often come down off the path to admire your catch. I'm always surprised how so many people know so little about bass. Keep tossing those artificials in and around the nice weeds that have cropped up this year. There's lots of bass in there to be had. BTW, you were right. A 17" bass is pretty good for LA but there are many larger bass in there. Just last week I pulled out a 20 incher.

I went back again today because it was good weather- overcast and starting to drizzle. By the time I got there it was blazing sun and hot. I caught a healthy 15 incher in the 1st 10 minutes on a senko. Then I got nothing else but a dink which had prior gill damage. Its gills were hanging out on one side but it was still healthy. Both fish bit on a fast retrieve with a pause.
