Yeah, yeah. I really should have stayed local but couldn't help but go to my ol' go-to this time of year

Wife took a half day from work for a cousins meetup with her sister in law (no men allowed, shucks) and told me I could get some fishing in. This is only my second time out this year so I decided to go to my favorite spot to "wade" the Dupe in Naperville. I got zero intel and went in assuming the usual conditions...low, slow, and clear. Nope! most of the sidewalks were flooded, the current was cookin and near zero water clarity. Welp, drove an hour to get here so let's see what we can do.

Pretty quickly got a little guy on the Whopper Plopper 60. Few minutes later got a slightly bigger one on a chartreuse keitech. Tried a bunch of different spots and got no takers. Had to get back home before noon so headed back after about an hour and a half of pounding. Felt good to get out again and hope the next time things will be status quo.

I crossed over the DuPage at Eagle St. on Sunday. The DuPage was at least 2' above the sidewalks, completely taped off.

"Sorry folks, the river is closed today."

I know you're way up north, you're almost better off driving north into Wisconsin to find some good smallie water.
What I need to do is really figure out Three Oaks in Crystal Lake and get on a boat out there. Thought about it this time but no intel and not a fan of a solo outing my first time on a boat there. Not exactly close but way more sensible. River smallies are easy to figure out but I can't remember the last time I caught a lake smallie.
