Headed out to Busse in the rain yesterday afternoon. Part of my goal was to test a NOS Columbia PVC rain jacket I just got. I've given up on high tech breathable waterproof stuff. Don't need it since I don't move fast enough to sweat. PVC doesn't breath but it's damned waterproof.
Parked in the middle Beisner Rd lot and worked my way around the point between the fishing wall & the dam throwing a black, 1/4 oz buzzbait. Got a couple taps just off the wall but nothing serious.
At the end of the point I got a more serious tap - in fact it tapped it twice - but no hook up.Walked a bit farther casting into the weeds in the little bay south of the dam. Nothing there so I retraced my steps & casted again. BAM! Pulled in a chunky 2 pounder.
Walked over the bike path & fished the south pool. Changed to a jig/twister/safetypin spinner & got some more casual taps.
The woods were full of skeeters - they're baaack!!! and blooming False Solomon's Seal. Said a blessing to the Brit - whoever they were - who invented Wellingtons. I spent a lot of time walking thru damp woods & shallow water.
Great way to start the week.
