Saw a Bass a few feet from the shore today. Tried jigging a plastic minnow at it for 20 min with no luck. After that I got mad and started poking it with the rod and it would barely budge. Finally annoyed him enough by jiggling the minnow by his face that he snapped at it but still couldn't hook. At one time I hooked him gently by the tail and he was spinning in circles trying to bite the minnow. He broke free, but I think after that he got mad at that little minnow and chomped on it. I pulled him in a little too quick, and he came off the hook and landed in the gravel path. I wish I took pictures but he was covered in so much gravel that I let him back in the water right away. Overall probably the funniest fishing experience I've had.

oh cmon  I dunno if you are a troll but if not- at this time of year a bass that sits still on one spot where you see it is spawning. They need to spawn to get the next generation of bass out. Bass protect their eggs and babies on a nest- you pulled a bass off its nest and dropped it on dirt and gravel.
Im not judging you, just informing you. Now that you know, good luck fishing. :)

He's fine though, released him into the water n he's still patrolling the same area... I think I did him a favor since he doesn't hang around when I walk by and actually tries to swim away. Yea, I didn't mean for him to fall into the gravel, he came off the line before I could get my hands on him and the gravel path was right by the shore. He wasn't out of the water for long though, less than 1 min. Thanks for the info though, before I was reading websites like this one http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/bass_spawn.html so I thought it was ok to go after them. I'll try not to target these fish next time I head out

its all personal preference, they will be better off if they spawn. I admit, if I see a big one Ill toss a lure on the nest. I dont try and harrass it though, basically if I see the fish it saw me so I never catch them in clear water. If it doesnt bite then ill leave it alone assuming its already been caught and harrassed enough. So sure, go for them if you are desperate to get a bass- Ive been there - but I dont keep on trying if they just wont bite, because you are really stressing out that fish who wont move far off the spot. And with any bass- keep them in the water if you can do it without swimming yourself. keep them in and lip em and unhook them there if possible, they stay calm. Pullem out for a pic or a weighin and then they stay happy :) Also sry if I sound mean, I just cant hold back :D
