My wife and I fished BigBend last summer quite a bit from a canoe. Other than sporadic panfish (very, very few) we got nothin'. It's beautifil little lake that should have decent fishing, but has been neglected by the CCFP and probably hit real heavy in terms of angling action in the past So there probably isn't much by way of Bass and Northern, etc. I think you're better off over the spillway and in the mighty Des Plaines!

I've spoken to the CCFPD about Big Bend and it is basically a dead lake. For unknown reasons, it just doesn't promote healthy reproduction. The CCFPD has indeed talked about doing something with it, but of course it is low on the list. Big Bend is always ranked near the bottom for fishing the forest preserve lakes.

There ARE however, a few small bass and crappie, and some big carp. And that area adjacent to the DesPlaines River is a good spot to fish.
