Can you take your own boat to Lake Delevan/Geneva or do you have to rent one from there? Mine is 18' Grumman with 65hp Johnson.

If you can take your own, any motor size restrictions, speed limits, or anything like that?

Lastly, what does a guy have to do to go fishing there from Illinois? Fishing licenses or permits? Cost? And for kids?

Thinking on taking a trip up there soon. Just want to make sure I would have all the info I would need before I go.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

There are public launches on both lakes for $10.25. You will need a WI license, but if your kids are under 16, they can fish for free. There are no motor or size restrictions for you to worry about. It can get choppy on both lakes at times.

Can't be any worse than LaSalle Lake. A 2mph fart of a breeze here in town is a 40mph sustained out there. White capped waves bigger than your boat. Choppy nothing, down right dangerous...lol

As for the WI fishing license, do they offer a temp license? Like a 3 day or something like that? If not, you know how much the licenses are?

Thanks again....

For out of staters the license fee is $24 for a 4-day license. That's the shortest time period they have. If you plan on fishing up there more than once you are better off with the annual at $50 simply because it eliminates the annoyance of having to get another 4-day.

Pay attention to the speed limit on Geneva 45mph weekdays, 35mph weekends, 15mph after sunset till sunrise. They have been really cracking down on this this year. I saw the patrol boats running all over on Monday night with their blue lights going well past midnight.

They have been doing random checks for that too. And they will board the baot and check your pfcs and extinguishers as well, so make sure all you stuff is ready to go.
Not to worry, me no drinky devils juice!!! As for boat, everything in tip top shape. Conservation police is always out in force on Illinois river on any given weekend. There is always a butt-load of pleasure boaters out there on weekends. Have been boarded a couple times already this season. They very sneaky too...lol

My boat was bought on eBay and came from Missouri. I am legal by paperwork but the boat still has the MO. stickers on it. First time out, they shot to me like fly's on stink. I totally expected that though. Should be getting my stickers soon.

I wouldn't be heading up to Lake Delevan anytime too soon. My sons 9th B-day party is this weekend. Spent WAY too much and will have to recoup my money. But mark my words, I'm there...

Thanks for the info...
