Took the boat out sat. afternoon looking for walleye nice day for a change , mid 60s sse winds 10-15, sunny at first but then got pretty cloudy, got to my first spot around 1:45 a mid lake edge off the main channel intersection, was seeing a lot of fish on the fish finder in the 8' channel so i parked on the edge near some weeds, the wind was blowing onto the ledge. i was throwing shallow runners, a -1,and a rattling rapala in the deep water and on and along the edge of the flat and after wasting 10 mins. untangeling a birds nest knot on a pole,i made a few casts and i picked up my first walleye of the year, a 16" 1.5 lber on chrome blue rattlin rapala.
moved around the spot for around another 1/2 hour but no more luck. Shot out to the next spot , a shallow point off the creek channel with the wind blowing at it, throwing the -1 a white spinner bait.and the trap. connected off the right corner after a few casts but the bass spit the -1 out , kept picking up moss on the trebles so i moved 20' for a better angle and landed a 12" .7lb bass, moved 10' and threw the spinnerbait and caught a 16" 2.5 lb bass on the front side of the point.
at this time two guys fishing on the other side of the lake shot across and came right up to my spot in front of me not even a full cast away! and they bottomed out there trolling motor on the gravel point and got stuck, spooking the fish. I said "i guess you didnt notice i was fishing around from this corner to that corner and you jump in front of me and crash your boat on the spot , not cool  " Was i wrong to look at this 150' point as my spot? i'd been there for 30 mins. moving every 10 mins or so 10 -15 feet around covering all the casting angles, from one side towards the other what do you think? with not much of a sorry they got unstuck and left. I let the spot quite down for a few and moved a little more and quickly landed a 16 1/4" 2.7 lb bass right next to the boat,
after a few i moved over the spot where they got stuck but didnt get any thing there then from where i started another guycame around the point , he went wide avoiding me - now thats fishing manners  ,and came around me going in to the cove and we struck up a conversation and i discovered that he was the guy i had just read his posts on another fish site i discovered just the other day and he's been fishing busse for 30 years as it turned out he fishes in the mornings and i fish in afternoons. nice guy " bust a cap 45"( always knew there was someone catching the fish earlier in the day causing my skunks  ) i kept casting the point and picked up the 4th bass another 12" bass way off the point near the drop.moved off to a protected spot to eat and rest then came back to the point and landed another 12" bass from where i first started. looked like rain and i headed in just beating the drizzle. days total; first walleye of the year and 5 bass from the point 2-16"s 2 1/2 lbers +/ 3 -12" dinks. what do you think was i wrong to claim the spot?
