Curious to see if anyone has gotten the flyer for this year yet. It looks like it's starting on March 6th. I have some gift cards to burn so I'm looking forward to seeing what's on sale.

Thanks, yeah I saw that come through too. Always fun to flip through that. And that’s where I first saw the dates. I’m assuming they would send the ads out sometime next week at the latest?

You would think that in winter they would have good discounts on their house brand lures and rods/reels. Same for the spring classic. Some lures they discount, they usually have discounted line during the spring classic and thats decent. But in general I'm not impressed at all w/BPS, for their size their sales aren't very good and I could care less about any sale on stupid stuff like their house brand shoes and clothes etc. And I wish Cabela's stayed its own company. They had some different things and sales etc.

Same old story. Great company gets bought by a bigger one & goes to shit.
I saw it happen too many times when I was working. Had a guy from Pitney Bowes start asking me if the place I worked for was for sale. I said,"Don't buy us". He said, "Why not?" I said, "Because you'll ruin us". He didn't like that.
They wound up buying one of our competitors & yep, they ruined them.

With basically every online site having occasional 10-20% off events, I feel like there really is no more excitement with this sale anymore.
That, Gander Mountain not going out of business, Dick's not becoming a sporting goods company in name only, Dick's, again, not closing Field and Stream stores, Pradco not scooping scooping up every lure manufacturer in sight, GSM not getting a hold of Dobyns, Phenix, and Yamamoto only to fall into the hands of some private equity scumbags .... the list is just getting longer every day.

You forgot Pure Fishing absorbing Abu, Pflueger, Fenwick, Plano, Van Staal, Penn, Mitchell, Berkley, Fin Nor, etc, etc, etc.
All this consolidation began in the 70s when Shakespeare decided the best way to deal with the fact that the Pflueger Medalist had a lock on the fly reel market was to buy Pflueger. In fact, when Pure Fishing merged with Shakespeare Shakespear was actually the larger company.
And let's not forget the newcomer - Rather Outdoors. They're run by an investment group & own Lew's, Strike King, Quantum/Zebco & a bunch of UK operations.
And last, anyone remember Herters? Wonderful old sporting goods company out of Minnesota. Cabelas bought them up in 1975. As the saying goes, there's always a bigger fish.
I was surprised to learn that Abercrombie and Fitch was a prominent outdoors company before being reborn as a magnet for anorexic teenagers.
Oh, and if you wade or fly fish keep in mind that Simms now stands for Strategic Value Partners.

Maybe I’m a little less jaded then most since I really only got back into fishing a few years ago (so I honestly have no idea what the sales used to be), but I’m still hoping to find some good stuff. I really like the rod/reel trade in where you can donate equipment and also get deals on rods/reels that typically don’t go on sale. I wish they had a better kayak selection and would probably use the gift cards to take a chunk out of that. I’m hoping there is a good deal on some waders too.
So I guess even if you plan on burning the ad right when you get it, just give me a heads up so I can check the mail for mine😂

On a side note I just found out Tacklewarehouse gives a 10% discount to military veterans. I emailed them a copy of my DD214 and they verified it within a few days. Out of all the sites, I have spent the most with them and kind of sickened to just figure this out now

Cabelas shit canned the trade-in program right after they sold out to BPS.
I'm not sure if they cancelled it at some point (or if it's a worse sale than it used to be), but I know at least the last few years they have had the trade in. They have announced that they will have it this year too.
