Hey guys, anyone else have any luck hitting the harbors for kings or cohos yet? Some of my friends and I have gone out twice in the last week to the Montrose harbor and haven't even had a thump yet. The first night (around 10 pm) we went out, it had been warm 2 days prior, and the water was deadly still. The water was litteraly glass inside and outside the harbor. We did see a few groups cruising around inside the harbor within two feet of the shoreline. They showed zero interest in anything we were throwing, from cranks, to inline spinners, and glow spoons. Most of them did not even react to our lures running right in front or on top of them. Then 2 days ago we went back out and got there again around 10pm. With somewhat of a cold front coming in and the nights being even colder we thought they might be more active. When we got there it was windy and the waves outside the harbor where white caps and was spraying on top of the shore line. Inside the harbor the water was was choppy but still clears enough to see almost the bottom a few feet out. The salmon were more active in roaming around. We saw bigger groups of 5+ roaming, swimming from the docks to the opening of the harbor and back. Yet again they showed zero interenst in anything we threw at them. One group of what was at least four swam less then a foot from the shoreline, I dropped the spoon on top of them and then swam it inches in front of them. I walked with them for a good 30 to 40 yards and they just swam with my spoon until they broke from the shore line and went towards the dock. This happened a few times and it was frustrating. Tried a inline spinner the same way and they just swam with it. I rather have some kind of reaction even if it just scared them off, but they could not care any less on what we did. Has anyone had better luck or the same results? We are planning on trying again wed night and then Thursday night we are going up north to Racine and Kenosha. We are thinking of breaking down and using a second rod with a salmon sack under a bobber. Any advice or recent updates will be much appreciated. Hopefully ill have something better to report in upcoming days.
until then tight lines everyone!
