Fresh Liver is the way to go. Pick up a pair of Nylons and drap a chunk in the nylons and tye it off and cut the slack. I do this when fishign for channel cats. The liver will stay on your hook no matter what. Every 30 mins or so I will bring it in and dip it in the juice in the chicken liver container. Plus when you catch a cat. More than half the time you will get your bait back.

Make sure you bring a knife to cut the nylons and to cut the nylon bait off your hook as well. Also make sure you have a rag. That is a must when fishign livers. Hope this helps a bit.

I normally use a smaller treble and wrap the liver around all 3 hooks. The fresher the liver, the more consistency the skin seems to have which makes it stay on better. Once they start to rot some they turn to mush which falls off very easily. I have to lob the bait in order for it not to fall off, but the bigger cats just suck the liver in completely and usually get hooked in the corner of the mouth.
