man it was cold my buddy caught a small northern on a rooster tail, and we found a dead beaver by the stairs next to the dam

That "ladder" is indeed a canoe portage. The pics don't show it, but that dam and the Touhy dam are identical structures with an area for the canoe passengers to "walk" the canoe down the dam in these areas.

Nice job getting a pike there. Only fished there once (last week), but i'm sure it is a good spot.
