I am currently using a portable Humminbird Wide 128 which runs on two lantern style batteries. I have owned this for about five years and thinking of making an upgrade during the holiday season.

I don't own a serious boat just a canoe and a 14' aluminum. However, I am looking for a portable model that is more powerful than the one I am using.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Do any companies make a device that runs on lithium batteries?

I use a Lowrance M68/X67c portable unit.

Works great on the ice, and I use it in my smaller boat.
Runs off a small 12v battery, like the Vex units.
User settings are different for summer and winter,
but I'm very happy with the unit.

I'll find a link and an image..

X67c is ~$299
M68c is ~$450 (X67 plus built in GPS).
This is for sonar head, portable holder, battery and ice transducer.

These prices are from Thorne Bros. online.
You might find them cheaper locally by ~$25.

I use the ice machine in my smaller boat as a portable.
The front of my bassboat has the same interchangable unit, I just plug it in.
