I didn't think I was going to have time to fish this evening, but I got a chance to get out to the DPR at around 6:00. The plan was to start off with cranks and plastics and if those weren't working I was going to run up to the bait shop and get some minnows or leeches. I started off using a Daiwa Shadmaster and on the very first cast I hooked into a sauger that was in the 15-16 inch range. I was running the crankbait through one of the deeper holes when the fish hit. I was really excited because this was my first sauger from the Des Plaines river. I stayed here for about an hour more, but I didn't hook into anything else. I usually fish one of the DPR's tribs, but I'm sure I'll be out here at the river a lot during October and November when the walleye's and sauger start feeding heavily. Good fishing to all. Tim
