Out Sunday morning kayaking on the DPR. Water is obviously still low, but a little less clear than last weekend. I'm thinking this was maybe from the isolated storms we had that fed into the river? Plus, all the weeds that were on the surface last weekend, were no longer on top of the water. Either way, the fish were not as eager to go after top water, so switched to a jointed Rapala and killed it. 19 Smallies, 1 Largie, 2 Pike (25"). My buddy got 10 Smallies himself with one at 19". Overall, another great day on the river. Action has been amazing lately!

Up here I haven't been able to get in on a bite like that. Do you have much carp?
Yea, it's been popping down here. Yes, lots and lots of carp! A few weeks ago they were putting on a show. It was literally like a pod of dolphins flopping around on the top everywhere. I had never quite seen anything like that. I've never fished for them, but have accidently snagged a few here and there. Pretty damn big fish that will tow around the kayak.

When carp are behaving that way it's because they're spawning. They were at it big time in CWB at Busse 2 weeks ago.

I know nothing about Carp, other than there's a lot of them in the DPR and they're quite large. They always get my hopes up that it's a game fish surfacing, but it's usually just a Carp.
