Well, its Fall and getting colder...while this may be a good thing for the bass bite for a bit...it is still a bit depressing signaling that winter isn't too far off. anyhoo.
Being reduced to the "weekend warrior" status (due to there being very little sunlight left when I'm off work-soon to be zero :( :( ), I got out for a few hours sat. and sun. mornings. Temps were in the upper 50's maybe inching into the low 60's later on in the morning on sun. partly cloudy both days.

sat-got sick of getting the skunk at one particularly popular weedline so I decided I would pound it until either i caught some fish or i got rained on/passed out/died of starvation etc. -i threw spinner baits (losing one :( ) with no luck, threw some cranks-no luck. after a few hours I switched to the small 3 inch grub and caught 2 12" bass. both hit it on the drop. both were really healthy looking. can't wait to catch them again in a year or two. I don't think i'd ever been happier catching a 12" bass. I had been riding the skunk on my last 5 or 6 river outings-so while nothing to write home about-felt like my day was somewhat salvaged.

sun-got out again and had no luck at several spots throwing everything. bite got going around 10 a.m. ish as it had the day before. Got a 2 1/2 lber on the good old shaw grigsby 5" paddleworm in salty green.  (still love the fact that i paid 68cents for all those plastics on sale @ Dicks :p ) Threw the paddleworm up against some concrete - banking it into the water-immediately felt some resistance-wasn't sure if it was some weeds or what so i threw a little sweeping hookset just in case and felt the bass getting upset on the other end of the line. had a real nice jump out of the water on his way in and luckily he didn't pop off. nice fish-much darker than those i've caught downstate recently. Had two other bites-one was another 2lber-ish bass that came to the top of the water-swallowing a black w/ blue flake senko that i promptly yanked from his mouth :( :( bummer. gotta get out there more while the fall bite is good.... here are a few pics
go cards

Nice fish, Brandon, those bass are darker than what we usually catch in the river. Maybe it's the changing of the season or the water temps. I think it's awesome that you are catching bass on those 68 cent worms you bought :D.

Shaw Grigsby probably wouldn't be thrilled at what you paid for them but he looks proud of the fish they caught!

thanx fishin matt. yeah, a lot of people talk a lot of smack about the river. I've only been fishing it for a year now however, i think it is way underrated a fishery. a) the vast majority of it seems under fished. there are a few spots that get heavy traffic but tons of weedlines, bridges, etc. that get no pressure- and b) 95% of the fishing there (I would like to think) is all catch and release. Most everyone knows not to keep any of these fish-although you do see people keeping some and even professing to eat them from time to time.  that being said..it seems like that level of catch and release has to be a good thing -possibly combating the fact that the carp population seems so big.

a lot of different species at play while most people don't even realize there are fish in there. heres to hoping it stays that way. :)
