Hi all, went out to the shoreline in Chicago a couple weeks ago, and on the first cast with a 3/8th Cutthroat spoon got a nice strike. Set him and gradually pulled him in, but my dumb self knowingly didn't bring a net (I don't have one). To my surprise it was a nice Steelhead, super pale looking, but probably the size of my arm. With only 8lb line I was pretty cautious with him, but was able to get him close enough to reach down and try fumbling in the water like an idiot. I got him out once, but he had some fight and whipped away. Looked around for someone to help but the tourists were all far away. Line broke at the bank and he took my pretty spoon. Egatz.

Anyway, I'm new to fishing Chicago. Anyone know how long fishing the shore/nearby ponds in winter is worth it?

Any suggestions for nearby areas?

Sorry no photo. Don't be like me and fish no-netted folks!
