Fox 11-2 Evening

Had a great time this evening out on the river with my brother and my dad. We got into some really nice fish and the weather was great. We invited 6 of the eyes back to my house for dinner later this week. My brother also got a REALLY nice smallie. Had to be 18-19" and 3-4 lbs. An absolute hog. He was, of course, released. The picture of the smallie is terrible because we forgot the camera, and took it with the crappy camera on his phone. But, you can see the girth on it. Next time, the camera is the FIRST thing packed.

All in all, we got around 10-15 fish. Released everything below 15-16" and above 20". Not bad for our second trip out on the river looking for walleye. I hear the drawdown turns the fish on even more? Is this true?

Special thanks goes out to Larry, who really helped turn us onto these fish. You are the man. Any time you want some company out on the river, let me or my brother know. :D

well said karen... and where are you seeing people overharvesting and keeping illegal fish? I know that my brother and I have mainly fished "wooded" waters so-to-speak where there isn't much public access and buckheads can sit around, it's mostly trees/private land/houses and you have to wade where we're at or you aren't catchin nothin... heh.
Hey Pez,

The first time I fished the Fox was at the St. Charles dam and what I saw going on there was disgusting. There were people there with limit x2 or 3 on stringers. I have no issues with a man keeping his limit, just wish it was a better area is all. The point I was getting at is, if all of us licensed fishermen practice catch and release in an overharvested area, maybe we can offset the problem. Another person from the site told me to keep this number handy (it is stored in my cell) 877-236-7529 for the DNR in Illinois. If anyone sees illegal activity they should call and report it. If we could put a stop to the illegal activity, we wouldn't even have a thread like this.
Its men like you that make women like me feel safe on the river.

I'm glad you're there for us.
Love,
Sus
Hey Sus,

I wasn't sure if you meant Pez or me in that comment, but I'm a chick too. Hope to see you put there sometime.
Out standing!!! Great report, and Nice fish. thanks for sharing :D :D
That had to be the biggest tard-fight in fishing forum history. Thank goodness they no longer post here.
Lol..I forgot all about this thread. Got people all worked up, but it hindsight its kinda funny. Not nearly as good as the DPR hotline stuff, however..
Lets get this thread going again I havent decided where those 5 keeper eyes were caught still havent decided where im fishing Saturday. Was going to be dpr in wisc or nippersink creek but maybe it will be fox. Now where is that spot on fox?
I'll narrow it down further....somewhere north of elgin

Just kidding, ski. I'm not positively sure, but I believe those fish were caught in the c'ville-elgin stretch. I'd say more, but don't want to out anyone's spot.

Yea I was just kidding of course asking about the spot...if I was to target them I would never catch em it would be by accident while looking for smallies....BTW the only fishing I have ever done on the fox is between elgin and C'ville simply because it's the shortest drive. But hell or high water I do want to get in a trip or two farther down south where smallie density is higher. I'd more likely float down in my yak and get out in spots where it looks fishy and try to avoid the fishing crowd. I have some spots I like between Elgin and C-ville but the smallies dont come in hordes for me (partly due to fact i dont fish it enough).
Don't you think this post fails to take into consideration the amount of times Pezdick went out there and greased fish without writing about it online?

You guys are funny btw

Oh you've missed some dandies on here, Marcus. But this was one was a doozie for sure.
I once fished this spot and with a friend of mine who was of Polish descent.
We caught many fish.
He wanted to keep one.
A 24 incher.
I put it on a stringer and stuck the spike in the sand.
I probably don't need to tell you what happened, but I will surmise.
We walked by that monster with our headlamps shining, it took two swipes of its tail and it was gone.
I always thought somebody would catch that fish with an eight foot blue nylon stringer pinned to it's lower jaw and make a post.
I'm still waiting.

uhhm, ziss POLE is heading there now, to round out the weekend. Tata needs a new (blue) stringer.
