Similar to Rambler, my old lady and I spent last week in the Great North Woods. We were about 10-12 miles West of Minocqua though, small lake as well, under 300 surface acres. No TV in the cabins and no cell/internet service....... It was a fantstic week of technology free time away.
Fishing was fantastic- catching was pitiful. Between the two of us, we managed only a handful of bluegill/sunnies and one 8" smallie all week. But, the weather was fantastic, albeit a bit warm a few days as it climbed in to the high 70s/low 80s a couple days. The only solice of the poor catching was knowing that we were in a rented camp boat for $300/wk... and the 7 or 8 personal $50-60K Alumacraft/Lund/Ranger fishing boats that rotated in and out during the week did no better than we did for catching.
Scenery was spectacular, probably 50-60% color peak on the sugar maples. We had the pleasure of of an Eagle's nest about 100 yards out from our cabin. They and the Loons were all quite vocal the whole week. Saw a small dust up between one of the Eagle and a Heron (as it got to close to the Eagle's hunting water?)... For about 2 minutes the Heron basically flew in a small figure 8 squaking like hell with the Eagle in hot pursuit, then the Heron landed back in the lake close to shore and it went back to fishing.
Only rain we had was the day of departure. Sorry, not many pictures, wasn't carrying my phone during the week.
