wil be heading to ft myers in july. would like to know what kind of fishing exists and if i can do it myself or should get a charter or maybe try both. ive always wanted to try fishing a saltwater harbor like fishing in montrose barbor if you understand what im getting at. and would i have to get saltwater gear and how do you take fishing gear on a plane. also is there any good bass fishing in the area.

Also look at Craig's List in Ft. Meyers, you can find people looking to split charters.
When I went there this winter, the condo where I stayed "supposedly" had fishing equipment. All they had were a couple of Zebcos and some Barbie poles. Went to Bass Pro in Ft. Meyers and picked up an Ugly Stick combo for under $50. Got some live shrimp and went to town. Hope this helps. Good luck.
