Picked up the above mentioned gopro yesterday at basspro. Was busy all night so busted it out this morning to begin the learning process. Camera worked great but remote wouldnt power on. Called gopro and was told its a fairly common problem. Options were to either bring it back to bass pro or have gopro send me a envelope to send in the remote for replacement. Bringing it back to basspro this evening.

Point of story? Check remote before leaving parking lot. Multiple posts on gopro forums state similar issues so its in fact common

Well now im having issues with the remote in general. When charging it I see it turn itself off and on constantly searching for wifi. As soon as I unplug it from wall the battery dies. It wont sync up with camera either. Im reading I might have to update the firmware whatever the hell that means. Going to call gopro again today and see what they say

Did you make sure to turn on wifi button on the camera? It should be a blinking blue light.

yep .... went through the entire process step by step with the tech. I was able to update the firmware....the remote is still having issues so hes putting in a order to have it replaced..... so for those who have followed me throughout this thread.... 48hours.... 2 gopro hero3+ remotes having to be returned do to defects
