As I’m always trying to become a better angler I’m curious on everyone’s approach to early spring cold dirty water fishing. I’ve always skunked until the beginning of April or late march. Looking to sharpen my tools with some new techniques and tips to fish these conditions

Cover water, lots of holes with no fish. But grouped in other holes. Its a good time to explore/scout areas and make some casts. No ticks, grasses are down, not a sweat fest either. Fish are not in fast water now obviously. Fish black and blue plastics and swim jigs fished slow. The only color I'm getting smallies on last few weeks.

Basically, what skifish said. I almost got on the Dupe last Saturday but the thought of big crappie and maybe a big largie got the better of me. I'd almost bet they're eating moving baits by now. Shitty, unstable weather as of recent so it's a possibility that they wouldn't, and the bite would be dragging baits unless you hit it on a warming trend with sun. I'd probably drag bottom with something and throw a single or double colorado blade spinnerbait. Something to slow roll with thump and flash in that high, dirty water. Work from the seams into slack. All my reports are dated in the title if you want to go back and read them over the last few years. Lures are always mentioned. I feel like I was throwing a spinnerbait last year by March.

Hey ski,
I'm actually quite surprised that you have had any luck with smallies. Very cool. I guess they can't wait for may to eat.
When it comes to mud or low vis, I go with chartreuse or hot pink on cloudy days, and shiny, flashy on sunny days.
Weekend weather looks windy n cold.
Counting the days.
Good luck boys

Im covering a lot of water. And I'm fishing a lot of different patterns plastics and jerkbaits and I don't understand why dark blue and black only working. If I lighten up colors a bit and go to craw or baitfish colors no bites. A little perplexing I'm wondering if they are thinking it's a leech.
