So, apparently VMC and Megabass have very different ideas about what a 3/0 hook should look like. Megabass also seems to think that there's 36 grams to an ounce.
Now to cheapskating. This spring I ordered some braid from Ali - $4.50 for 300m of 30#, in black. At first I was pessimistic, as simply running line between my fingers stained them black, but in use it settled on a nice medium-dark gray color and does not seem to fade any more. I did not test it for strength, but I ordered 30# on an assumption that it would be at least 20-25#. In any case, I have not had any break offs so far.
Encouraged, I recently ordered some 8-strand braid, 150m of 60# in low-vis gray. $4.35 shipped. Have not used it yet, but my initial observation is that it is significantly smoother, and stiffer than my regulat PowerPro. It's is also quite light in color, but I plan to try it for frogging so it probably won't matter. We'll see how it behaves, but I may never buy another $10+ roll of braid again.
