How do you fish a chatterbait?

Everytime I go out to the Glen, I try the chatterbait. I've heard that there are different ways to fish with it, but I just cast it out and reel it in at different speeds. I still have yet to catch a fish on one. I'm using the pumpkin color and chartreuse. I have had bass follow it, but it seems like they won't bite it. Am I doing anything wrong? I think this lure can really catch a lot of fish and I'm not going to give up on it yet. I'll be at the Glen on Friday to try again and hopefully I'll get a bass on it.

My experience with the Chatterbait has been similar to yours; not great. I have caught a very limited number of fish on it and have actually given up on it because I know that I can be much more productive with other lures and baits. I, like you, have thought that it could be a very productive bait. I just haven't seen that. I hope that others can give us some positive feedback on their experiences with it so that both of us can learn from it.

Me Too, I dont see what all the hub-bub is about. It doesnt seem to cut thru weeds as well as people say also.
Well, i'm still waiting for the first Chatterbait fish as well. Forest preserve lakes and park district are tough places to fish though. Not that fish can't be caught with spinners and such, but the heavy fishing pressure usually calls for more finesse techniques. That's why Senko's and Slug-go's are so productive when fishied properly on most of these waters.

I still have confidence in the Chatterbait though. It's just that i'm naturally a finesse-fishing type of guy and haven't given the Chatter enough of a chance.
I've caught a few fish on it, but have lost all but one due to jumps. I've worked it every way I can imagine with minimal results. I like it, it looks cool and should produce, but like J-No says, local FP fish have seen everything and are timid. I may give it more of a shot up north.
up in wisconsin at my parents lakehouse i have caught tons of fish on thye chatterbait but the fishing is much different up there. I just cast it out and reel it in. I am losing a lot of fish on it also though.
