I tried to lighten my tackle bag.. took out a bunch of extra drop shot and split shot weight and etc. Still weighs 12.4 lbs. Just curious if anyone ever weighed theirs. Be interested in hearing how much people carry around.

Rigger - are you trying to say Israelis don't fish? Or that they wouldn't make tackle bags? I've got a pair of canvas Israeli-made water shoes that are outstanding. Just 'cause they live in a desert doesn't mean they're fish deprived.

It weighs about 30-40 pounds; I'm not even kidding, haha. Over the years, it has gotten heavier and heavier, and whenever I try to go lighter, stuff keeps adding up. I read somewhere about one of the latest tackle bags on the market. They're innovative, have a minimal weight, are easy to store, and make organizing stuff so much easier. Plus, they don't crack when bounced on the deck in a pounding boat. I just ordered one off https://www.borboletabag.com/th/. It's an Israeli company, I think. It should weigh less than our usual tackle bags, but we'll see.

My big bag holds 5, 3500 size boxes vertically... I can sneak another on top horizontal if I need and a few side pockets with tools and various sundry items. That bag includes everything for Walleye, bass, and pannies.

If I am just targeting one species, then I have a new tackle bag that holds 2, 3500 size boxes and the sundries.

I do have one larger general purpose carry all box for the Musky stuff, but only carry that once a year up North. It's pretty basic also, a few buck tails, spinners and jerk/crank baits, plus tools.

I'm also going back to using "general" use rods/reels instead of so many technique specific items. Just trying to get real about it, I have just as much fun and catch just as many fish. And a lot less clutter in the basement. 8) .
Since this post a few years ago, I have reduced my tackle bag by over half and pared down the rods/reels to just a handful instead of a dozen plus.

I'm always suspicious when a newbie dredges up an old thread. But in this case it's all good. Always good to consider what & how much stuff we lug around. I know I'm guilty of always taking too much. I guess it's a case of "having it & not needing it".

Anybody who has fished with me knows exactly how much my tackle bag weighs.
Let's just say it's a lot !

Ya gotta keep your bases covered...

Sometimes I feel like that kid from Caddy Shack who tries to lift that giant golf bag and ends up spinning around and around.
When in Canada my friend has his Kubota ready at all times to haul my tackle back down to the dock and back up again :p .

Okay 1 tackle box and one stash box...
...and that other one under the boat seat and - on yeah - the one I keep over there just in case... :D Reminds me of the old Monty Python routine.

Well what are we fishing for and where are we fishing is the real question.
This is a good point. I have 3 bags but never take them all at the same time. My main bag I take when I go to Skokie Lagoons, Busse & similar places. Probably weights 10 lbs.

Then I have a much smaller one to carry UL gear. It's a converted camera bag that holds 5 small Plano boxes & some smaller stuff. Weighs maybe 5 lbs.

My fly bag is another, even smaller camera bag that holds 4 small fly boxes, leaders, etc. Probably weighs 3 lbs. I keep another fly box in my vest.

And last, there are 2 old tackle boxes under my desk that hold all sorts of antique crap that for nostalgic reasons I can't seem to part with. Who cares what they weigh.

Oh - and a 50 cal ammo box in the laundry room with my Popeil Pocket Fisherman and a bunch of other crap. And several small double-sided boxes with a lifetime supply of jig heads, twister tails, etc. Hey - who let John Cleese in here?

Actually never considered weighing my gear. That's a cool question and look forward to other replies. It turns out that I carry around 6lbs. of gear when I wade or spot hop. A pound and a half of it is my net ant the rest is tackle. I am sure it does vary by a pound or so depending on the bite. A few extra jigs and bags of soft plastics can add on weight pretty quick.

I laugh when I hear this crap from auxy about carrying 2 or 3 lures. I haven't fished with you this year but you usually have a bunch of boxes on that aircraft carrier yak and more when on the jon. 2 or 3 lures that is blasphemy. Whens the floatilla let's do it soon I'd like to fish down alleys, between houses, and down the center lane of river road.

If I'm pike fishing maybe 2 or 3 lures, pliers, spreaders, cutters. That's it...

Bass, 2 or 3 jigs and a bag of plastics. Cutters, pliers. Maybe a lure...

No bag or box if I'm wading. If boating, one small slim box.

Carrying around a tackle box is for children, not anglers. I keep most of my tackle on a pegboard. Grab a few for the day and that's that.

You weren't kidding Aux!! You DO have a ton of jointed Raps!

I had one of the big, blue tackle bags from BPS that held four or five Plano boxes in front, and two smaller ones in the side pockets....I had that loaded up and carried it with me the first year I re-started fishing in my 30s. I weighed myself without the bag, and with the bag to determine weight.....it was 32 lbs.

Now I have tackle all over the place. I need to get myself organized on many levels then begin the process of finding my after work spots, weekend spots, then yak and ice spots near my Palatine home.

One thing I won't be doing is carrying around 32 lbs again when I want to go out and fish. The benefit of doing that in prior years however was I had ALL my tackle with me for any species all the time. Lucky I didn't get a hernia while carrying it. :)
