Most of you have good experience fishing with Senkos (I never used them before)
So if some of you could share with me the Senko fishing basics it will be greatly appreciated.
I am planning to fish Busse Lake and Skokie Lagoons using Shimano Compre Spinning Rod with Spirex reel and 10lbs P-line.

What I am looking for is:

1. size and color at this time of the year
2. type of hook and worm rigging
3. should I add weight or go weightless
4. retrieve speed
5. when to set a hook

Thanks,

Rather than rewriting all of this stuff, here is the best information that I could find about fishing Senkos on the internet:

Color doesn't matter as much as light or dark. Usually you want to fish them weightless. I like to use an EWG hook like a 1/0. They are pretty much a do nothing bait. Sometimes the less you move them the more success you will have. I hope this helps.

I by no means am an expert with fishing senkos, but I will try to help the best I can. I prefer the 5" darker green colors. If there are going to be a lot of weeds or snags in the area you are fishing I would suggest rigging it Texas Style, I think I usually use a 3/0 or 4/0 worm hook. However, I have had better success with it rigged wacky style, obviously this wouldn't be a good idea in an area with a lot of snags. While fishing it wacky style I usually use just a small normal hook, not a big worm hook or anything. To fish the senko, cast to your desired area and just let the bait sink to the bottom, when you think it has hit the bottom, wait a few more seconds, then shake the tip of your pole a few times and bring your rod tip up to 10-12 O' Clock, depending on the depth of the water, and let it sink again. You can repeat this until you bring it to shore or do it a few times, reel it in, cast and repeat. Hope that helped :D .

Like Fishinkid, I prefer a larger hook when using a 5" Senko- I use a 3/0 EWG Gammagatsu. For the 4" I'll use a 1/0 and for wacky I use a 1/0 weedless hook. I fish the Senko for fish that are hitting on the fall and I probably fish it a lot faster than most guys on here do. Sure, you can catch fish while dragging it along the bottom but I usually use something else for that.

This should help with the hookset. http://www.windycityfishing.com/forums/ ... php?t=6085

By the way, what type of P-Line are you using? 10 lb CXX will be pretty tough to use on a spinning reel. CX, FC, and Flouroclear will be tolerable.

Good fishing. Paul
