The guys have been popping holes on some smaller lakes on the UP/WI border the past few days and on some back waters sloughs of the some bigger rivers. These guys on Cowboy Lake in Kingsford, MI said they just had 2" of ice and they're only about 50' from the boat ramp and these guys said the guys further out are likely on less ice. Plenty of open water can be seen on these lakes, 2" is too thin for me.

Daytime highs are going to be below freezing all week, hopefully things will be good on this 50 acre lake I'm going to hit next weekend further North.

I'm bigger and 2" will hold me. But the trouble with 2" is that any variance in the thinner direction and you're going through. You can move 10' in any direction and quickly find yourself standing on 1" or less.

I also ask guys " Ok, you are fishing on 2" and it's holding you. What happens if you slip and take a hard fall?" Uh, duh--you're going through the ice!
