I went fishin on the chain for the first time today through the ice. we went out lookin for a fish fry. We caught nothin all day but two white bass from 11:30-4pm outta three guys. At four i happened to get very lucky and land a beut of a walleye. a 25.5 incher. My first ice walleye ever. heres where the drama starts. I kept it. i shouldnt have kept it, considering i have always been pro "CPR", and know better than to ice such an important reproductive fish of the ecosystem, and went back on what i beleive in. I got caught in the moment, and the fact that i wanted a pic n had no camera, along with nothing to eat coming in off the ice. I feel guilty for keeping an important fish. not to mention i was unaware of the slot on the lake, and did not accurately measure the fish & know the regulations before keeping it. i welcome all the flack i am soon to recieve for killing a trophy. :? . I am now a poacher. you are free to post your opinion of what a dildo i am now, since i already heard it from one or two of ya. probably my last post considering the drama that brews on this site. :|

There is no defending what i did,
no excuses.

good luck out there on the ice.

Drama doesn't brew on this site.

It brews only within the minds of a few individuals....and as far as I can tell it is in no way the culture of this forum.

You must be thinking of a different site

Nice catch=)

Erik,

Nice catch. I'd like to see a picture.

I'll be honest, I'd have thrown it back and wish you had but I won't give you any more grief than that over it. If it's legal, it's legal. Not a big deal in my book. Good fishing.

Besides just go to any of the fox river dams on any given weekend, watch all the mongers there, you wont feel so bad about taking one fish.

what about the 19 incher you also caught that came outta the chain. but it is what it is. the 25.5 is a legal fish, but the 19 inch that you told me you caught and kept over the phone is the one thats an illegal fish... your confused on the slot dude...

Have fun fishn' ;)

Dont kill yourself over it, taking a walleye or any fish once in a while is okay. Your said that you are a true CPR fisherman so in my mind you have already helped more than you have hurt. Nice catch and keep on fishin

yea dude, I don't even know why you posted this... The 25.5 inch walleye is a really nice eye, congrats dude. But I was just a little upset when I heard of the 19 incher thats in the slot. It was a mistake as you didn't know the slot. I think you are confused on the slot. Call me later and I will explain how the slot works out there. I know your mostly catch and release as I have fished with you. You and Rob are walleye champs on Busse, you guys have 100 walleye years outt there... but don't get worked up over the walleye. There are thousands of Monster Eyes in the Chain...

Didnt know the slot existed when i was keeping fish which was my bad, and the other eye was a quarter over eighteen makin me a poacher. I am however very surprised and happy to see a slot limit being enforced in an area like this, i know first hand the positive effects of a good slot, i have seen the effects in canada. I wish there were more slots on lakes around here and in wisconsin, the only other place i have seen good slot management was in canada and after a handful of years it was apparent that the fishing was getting better. The last thing i expected was a slot in illinois, i didnt know that IDNR was capable of setting such good regulations, most of our waters are allowed to be raped, Example 6 walleye over eighteen at busse, thats murder. me and my friends have never kept a single fish outta busse.

This was the chain fish, i think it is my second or third biggest walleye and very first through the ice. my biggest is the one on my avatar caught in vilas county, at 30.25inch n 9.5 lbs.(CPR'ed)

Nice Walleye Erik. Me and Rob got out there and he hit 1 Walleye at 20"s on a tip-up. Then a couple white bass were jigged while jigging for walleye... I just got back, damn was it windy!!!

Hopefully you will not be keeping anymore Monster Eyes though ;)

You beat yourself up more than anyone out here could. You live and learn. I would say that anyone that targets a specific fish should read up on the rules and regulations before heading out. Most of this info is available on the DNR web sites and would take only a few minutes of your time. Nice work though, and tight lines to you.

LMFAO.. funny thing is, just got back from Bangs, Me, Big Bass Lee, and Kool-Aid got out around 7:30pm and fished until 10:30 only. We had a flat tire on the way there that I changed within 3 minutes. It sucked pulling all the ice gear out, but it was cold and I rushed and torqued dem Mother F**kers down! Kool-Aid got 2 craps. Me and BB-Lee came up with the big ole skunko. We got there too late. But if you are up for tomorrow the 16th, I'm game dude!!! I ice fish every day if I can, even if it comes to 1 hour to 3 hours... I am out. I will not posts all my reports. But I am out n good to roll!!! Bangs on the South east end has 4-6 inches. by LINDYS and WAUCONDA BOAT, I will wait until the weekend at the least!!! only 1-2 inches varrying... there is 2 springs there as well. I know where they are at, But that end of the lake sucks anyways ;) But Lindys no Ice Fisherman are welcome anymore unless if you grab a bite to eat and a decent amount of beers before you head out. I will rack up a nice tab just to head out from there to where the old slide use to be in 12 foot of water. ;) F*** that walk man!!! LOL whats good is good for me. Money means fish, and fish mean money at times if your rollin with the right russians!!! LMFAO!!! YaYaYa!!! are ya markin, are ya catchin', YaYaYa!!!

LMFAO. j/k bro, call me when you get the chance. I will be back on the ice tomorrow for sure, plus one of my honey holes might be ready to roll ;) If not there, we are jiggin for eyes on the chain... All CATCH N RELEASE!!! you keep any eyes, you know me ;) there are problems 8) Call me in the AM, I will be up at 5-6am debating to fish or not

One More thing dude, we had flags out, but I had one tip-up stripped with about 10 foot of line out for eyes. If we go for eyes, I will be there 2 hours before sunset to pop about 50-75 holes way before sun-down. Just come out with a bucket. The noise will spook dem eyes.... We will talk more later, I want to target eyes early this season before late ice big pike come along even though im going to Delavan Lake Sunday in search of some Monster Pike!!! :p

Call me ASAP Bro!!! You Have Been Missing out on a Little Action... But im still figuring out the pattern. Once I figure it out liek last year, Its on Dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave you are a fishin' madman! I think you are making up for the rest of us. Glad to see you are getting out. With this cold ass weather you shouldn't miss a beat. Bring your snow shovel cuz we are going to get another pounding tonight..so they say.

Sorry to see you didn't do all that well on Bangs, on the other hand it's comforting to know that I'm not the only one that can be challenged at times out there.
