Again, I had this very strong feeling that I should get out and hit The Glen after work this evening. Since I was at the Evanston Vet Center, meeting a fellow veteran before coming home, I was able to get out on the water earlier than usual. So, I arrived at the lake at 6:05 p.m., and I was on the long pier fishing by 6:15. I started out with a Wacky rigged Yum Dinger, but after 10 or 15 minutes, I decided to change things up and I went to a Texsposed rig, with a 1/8 oz bullet weight, a and 3/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook, and a Zoom Baby Brush Hog in Avocado. Mind you, I am using 15lb fluro, a Palomar knot, as always, and I never use a leader (I've never had a fail, even when I landed my 24" and 32" northerns).

At 6:45 my line tightened and started to move off to the west, I set the hook and the fight was on. At first I thought I had my PB largemouth, especially when I spotted him the first time when he rolled and ran toward the rocks and the weeds. But then, just before he ran under the pier, I realized that I had hooked a good size fish, what I thought was a northern, that turned out to be a Tiger Muskie.

I worked him out from under the pier, then I got him close to the pier and I got the Rapala gripper attached to his lip. I pulled him out, weighed him, 4.36 lbs, and measured him, 26", then a young couple with two sons who were fishing took a couple of pictures and e-mailed them to me.

I don't know what to say--I never expected to catch a Tiger Muskie, much less on a bass rod (Daiwa Cielo, MHF, 7' 2", and a Fuego 100HS bait cast reel) and reel set up, throwing a soft plastic creature.
