Took my kids out on Island lake last night from 6 to 7 ,got a few
bites on crawlers over by the creek mouth . there was not much open water to fish but we were able to get a couple of gills , and one walleye.
One walleye hit right off shore , was every bit of 24'' but broke off
when he took it under the ice. :evil: We did not get anything big but it
was fun to get out there.That walleye was a blast even though he got
off! Got a couple more weeks before the ice is gone and the real fun starts :roll:

Is Island Lake private ?

It used to be private , but they opened several places to the public
you can fish off the shore ,and launch a boat from. there is a 10 horse
limit on the lake,and it is C&R except for crappie & bluegill & carp

You can hide a lot of walleye in 6" of water, and they will come all the way in shallow prespawn. The coolest thing to see is when the larger eyes come up so shallow their backs come out of the water while they are feeding

I got a kick out of watching the expression on my kids face when that
eye popped up next to shore 8) 8) . But if Ihad restrung his line he
might have caught him :evil: :roll: :x ! We WILL be better prepared next time.

Thanks for the report Jim. Bummer about the 24" walleye - but at least she's ready for ya another day now.

It's just north of 176 about 2 miles west of rt.12.Nice quiet little
lake in a pretty cool neighborhood.Great place to bring the kids cause the gills and cats and crappie are pretty willing to please.Everyone is prettycool about c&r there cause they keep it pretty well monitored,we've
only run into one problem with a guy trying to keep the gamefish he caught but he remembered once we called him on it :roll: .I have caught
lmb's up to 7# ,nice walleyes ,and pike.Always had a good time.
