I was at the kankakee a few days ago and caught a few smallmouth. Nothing big all were between 1-3 lbs. but the catching was consistant. in all about 5 fish were caught within 2 hours. The river is in great shpe for wading just grab some old shoes and swimsuit and go. this is a pic before I droped my phone in the water.

I waded the Kankakee last night near I-55.
Before walking in the Radio mentioned there was a storm a few hours North by Rockford.
Sounded fine, I planned to get in at least a few hours of fishing into dark..

By I-55 is an easy stretch to wade with islands and lots of mid stream boulders & eddy's.

I casted cranks, twisters and my usual baits and nothing..
Typically I can find smallies but you have to move a lot and keep casting.

Drifting a nightcrawler along the seams I was able to pull in 2 channel cats.
One was small eater size the other was ~5 pounds.
While I was fighting the big one the sky turned black and the wind kicked up.

I let that fish go, scrambled to my car and sped home.
Only to get cauight in that lightening storm by Joliet & I-80.
Plus hear I was fishing & driving with tornado warnings..
That was incredible, I've never seen as many bolts so close ever...

Fast night of fishing but great to get wet and make a few casts..

:D
